Catalytic Carbon | NSF Certified. Approximately 500 g / L | Iodine Number (min) 1,100 mg/g | High-efficiency (less treats more) Aids in reduction and control of latent organic material | Improves water clarity and light penetration Increases average ORP value | Removes chloramines and chlorine | Low moisture, ash, and dust May be used to remove chelated minor and/or trace cations in the event of excess concentration High-efficiency due to extremely high internal surface area : volume ratio | Low phosphate. While Extric8 C is low in dust and exhibits high durability, the possibility that dust will be generated during transit exists. It is advisable to rinse this media in non-chlorinated water prior to use, for the purpose of removing dust which may have settled during transit; this step may be skipped if desired. For reduction and control of latent dissolved organic matter resulting in decreased light transmission and/or odor control: Begin with 1 g of Extric8 C per 5 gallons net system volume. Recommended is to place media in a flow-through vessel, such as a media canister, with a flow rate of 10% net system volume per hour; a sediment pre-filter is strongly suggested in order to minimize accumulation of latent particulate organic material within vessel, which would otherwise degrade the ability of the media to remove dissolved organic material and other entrained contaminants. Using ORP as an indicator of exhaustion: Because of the positive impact that Extric8 C has on ORP, this metric may be used to provide an indication as to the state of exhaustion of the media. To do this, record the systems average ORP value over the 24 hour period prior to placing this media into use. Monitor the ORP value while the media is in use; the average daily ORP value will generally increase, assuming no change in system husbandry practices, until such time as the media has become exhausted. At that time, ORP will begin to gradually decrease. Remove the media, discard, and replace as system conditions dictate. The greater the flow rate of system water through the media bed, the faster the media will exhaust. If using the suggested flow rate, then media is likely to be completely exhausted after 5 days of continuous use.
